My Soul to Keep

Author: Rachel Vincent
Series: Soul Screamers, Book 3
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): Eh. 6

Kaylee has one addiction: her very hot, very popular boyfriend, Nash. A bean sidhe like Kaylee, Nash understands her like no one else. Nothing can come between them.
Until something does.

Demon breath. No, not the toothpaste-challenged kind. The Netherworld kind. The kind that really can kill you. Somehow the super-addictive substance has made its way to the human world. But how? Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends—one of whom is already hooked.

And so is someone else…
The third installment of Soul Screamers is just as good as the previous two. Kaylee does a lot of growing up in this book, thanks in large part to the major cliff hanger at the end of the book. At the beginning of the book, Kaylee and Nash are attending a party together and find out one of Nash's friends is addicted to demon's breath. So during the book, they must: find out who's selling the demon's breath, stop whoever is selling it, try to help the addicted, and also keep up a healthy relationship. That's a lot to do, isn't it?
This book obviously follows the sin of gluttony (addiction). The book does a really great job of incorporating that without making it painfully obvious. It's not like "Oh wow, this series must follow the seven deadly sins. Huh. How interesting." No. It's more like, you read it, and you're like no.. But then you think and your like wow! They do.

So that's my opinion on this book. It's fantastic. That's my opinion on every book I review on here but still. It's good.

Buy it here: Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Not my favorite, I'll admit. Mostly because it's all Kaylee and Nash and love and blah. I still like Tod and I will always choose Tod. So there Nash.

Tod is there from the very first chapter (which makes me unbelievably happy) and watches over Emma. He's so sweet. ;) Well Kaylee and Nash discover that Nash's friends have been doing Demon's breath, which is  a very very bad thing. It'll kill you after it's made you insane with addiction. Charming, right?

So throughout the book, they try and find out how something from the very scary Netherworld (which is full of all the bad things that can't cross over to the human world. Like hellions, for example.) is getting through  to the humans. This involves questioning, possessions, and a very angry hellion. Remember our friend Avari? Yeah, he's back. And pissed.

Nash is a douche, if I may say. He's so possesive and greedy in this book! Plus keeps on pressuring and pressuring Kaylee about sex! Not cool, bro, not cool. Bad boyfriend right there.

There's a big shocker towards the middle, I think. The ending oh holy shit. Yess! I was saying go Kaylee! Finally, woman! And Tod. Thank you. Just.. Thanks. (And when I say thanks, I meant I was yelling and fist pumping.) I wanted to do that very thing for so long, you have no idea. Tod has such beautiful moments throughout the series. This is one of them. ♥ Go Tod!

I loved the ending. :) So I'm giving the ending 5 whole stars (WHOO!) and the rest three. Because I don't like Nash. Jerk.

My Soul to Save

Author: Rachel Vincent
Series: Soul Screamers, Book 2
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 7 1/2

When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.

So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.

The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld--a consequence they can't possibly understand.

Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk....

This is the second book in the Soul Screamers series. Kaylee is evolving nicely into a kick butt heroine. And if you don't like her yet, you will. Her commentary throughout the rest of the series is quite funny, if you like sarcasm and can understand some pop culture references. She's is learning to control her wail, courtesy of Nash's mother and fellow bean sidhe.

I enjoyed every moment of Nash saying "Damn it, Tod" simply because most of the time, he just happened to be interrupting a special moment between Nash and Kaylee, who are not my favorite couple. In the book, there's several make out sessions between the two.

This is the book where I decided I don't really like Nash that much, especially when you compare him to his brother. Nash pushes Kaylee for sex, and she's forced to question whether or not he really loves her, if he just wants her or sex, or if the attraction there is just because she's a bean sidhe like him, thus his fascination. And then Tod is Tod. Who happens to be trying his very hardest to save the woman he loves. And what is Nash doing again? Oh right. Pressure. Sex. Gotcha.

I also didn't like Addison, who is another teen pop star and also Tod's ex. She's hard to relate to at first because of the whole pop star thing, but I do begin to like her better once you understand what she'll do to protect her little sister, Regan. Tod still cares for Addison and will try and do everything possible to protect her. I love Tod even more in this book.

Over all, I give this 4 stars because it really does improve a lot. There's jusy more of everything- action, romance, suspence.

My Soul to Take

Author: Rachel Vincent
Series: Soul Screamers, Book 1
Rate(On a scale of 1-10): 7

She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

This is the first book in the Soul Screamers series. It introduces to us quite a few characters like Kaylee, Emma, Nash, and Tod. My favorite of these is Tod, but I do like Kaylee too. Her devotion to her friends and family is truly admirable.

Kaylee is one of those girls who is beautiful but honest to God doesn't know it. She doesn't understand why she has caught the eye of her school's most popular jock. She doesn't understand a lot about herself. It's frustrating to her that Nash knows more about her than she does.

Nash isn't my favorite character, I must say. There's just something about him that's off. Is it just me? Contrary to popular belief, sometimes the best person isn't always one of the main characters. Like Tod!

I do like Tod. He's amazing. He provides the much need comidic relief. He does so through sarcasm which is even better. ;) Plus he's a reaper. How freaking awesome is that?! It's very aweomse. In case you were wondering.

This series is modeled after the seven deadly sins: vanity, greed, gluttony (addiction), envy, lust, and the last two that haven't come out yet will be sloth (depression) and rage. That in itself is interesting to me. I believe that they all follow those themes well. I recommend this to anyone who wants a paranormal/supernatural book with romance, but not having it overriding the actual plot.

I give 3 1/2 stars because it's a great book, but things haven't sped up yet.
But it will. ;)

Soul Screamers Series by Rachel Vincent

Soul Screamers Volume I
Rachel Vincent

So I've read these books before, and am now doing so again. Why? Because these books are amazing. That's why. I love the characters and plot lines. My favorite, (so far) is the most recent one If I Die, which fits the book perfectly if I do say so myself. I love Rachel Vincent, if not just for the fact that she wrote these amazing books.

The order of the books (which is a tad bit confusing) is:
My Soul to Take
My Soul to Save
My Soul to Keep
My Soul to Steal
If I Die
Before I Wake (coming later this year!)
With All My Soul (coming next year!)

There is also a prequel to the series, My Soul to Lose, and while it's not completely necessary it's good if you want a little insight to the uh.. Hospital references. There are two novellas as of right now, Reaper which is about Tod, whom I absolutely LOVE, and Never to Sleep which is about Sophie, whom I don't. I haven't read either of these, so I can't offer my opinion on them.
