She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.
This is the first book in the Soul Screamers series. It introduces to us quite a few characters like Kaylee, Emma, Nash, and Tod. My favorite of these is Tod, but I do like Kaylee too. Her devotion to her friends and family is truly admirable.
Kaylee is one of those girls who is beautiful but honest to God doesn't know it. She doesn't understand why she has caught the eye of her school's most popular jock. She doesn't understand a lot about herself. It's frustrating to her that Nash knows more about her than she does.
Nash isn't my favorite character, I must say. There's just something about him that's off. Is it just me? Contrary to popular belief, sometimes the best person isn't always one of the main characters. Like Tod!
I do like Tod. He's amazing. He provides the much need comidic relief. He does so through sarcasm which is even better. ;) Plus he's a reaper. How freaking awesome is that?! It's very aweomse. In case you were wondering.
This series is modeled after the seven deadly sins: vanity, greed, gluttony (addiction), envy, lust, and the last two that haven't come out yet will be sloth (depression) and rage. That in itself is interesting to me. I believe that they all follow those themes well. I recommend this to anyone who wants a paranormal/supernatural book with romance, but not having it overriding the actual plot.
I give 3 1/2 stars because it's a great book, but things haven't sped up yet.
But it will. ;)
