When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.
So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.
The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld--a consequence they can't possibly understand.
Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk....
This is the second book in the Soul Screamers series. Kaylee is evolving nicely into a kick butt heroine. And if you don't like her yet, you will. Her commentary throughout the rest of the series is quite funny, if you like sarcasm and can understand some pop culture references. She's is learning to control her wail, courtesy of Nash's mother and fellow bean sidhe.
I enjoyed every moment of Nash saying "Damn it, Tod" simply because most of the time, he just happened to be interrupting a special moment between Nash and Kaylee, who are not my favorite couple. In the book, there's several make out sessions between the two.
This is the book where I decided I don't really like Nash that much, especially when you compare him to his brother. Nash pushes Kaylee for sex, and she's forced to question whether or not he really loves her, if he just wants her or sex, or if the attraction there is just because she's a bean sidhe like him, thus his fascination. And then Tod is Tod. Who happens to be trying his very hardest to save the woman he loves. And what is Nash doing again? Oh right. Pressure. Sex. Gotcha.
I also didn't like Addison, who is another teen pop star and also Tod's ex. She's hard to relate to at first because of the whole pop star thing, but I do begin to like her better once you understand what she'll do to protect her little sister, Regan. Tod still cares for Addison and will try and do everything possible to protect her. I love Tod even more in this book.
Over all, I give this 4 stars because it really does improve a lot. There's jusy more of everything- action, romance, suspence.
