City of Lost Souls.. ♥

Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Mortal Instruments, Book 5
Rate(on a scale of 1-10): 20. ;)

Can the lost be reclaimed? What price is too high to pay for love? Who can be trusted when sin and salvation collide?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge.

Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

Worst summary ever, I'll give you that. But hello, best book ever! :) I was sooo excited when this book came out. Really. It was unreal. I bought it on my Kindle jsut so I wouldn't have to wait another 8 hours. I was very excited. And impatient. :)

It doesn't start after the cliffhanger ended, which was unfortunate but necessay to the story. In fact, it starts with Simon! Whoo? No whoo. Simon's okay, but when compared to the MAJOR cliffhanger (or to Jace for that matter) I really don't care about him. At all. The actual story starts two weeks after the ending of COFA. Jace is still gone. Jace remains gone for most of the book. *weeps.* Anyway.

Clary's still kick ass. Sebastion's still creepy. Pretty much sums that up.. Chairman Meow (Magnus' cat, and my kitten's namesake) is in this book more! I love it. Magnus, still awesome. He and Alec are still together. :)

Clary's determination is astounding. I mean, I love Jace too but the lengths she goes to get him back is just amazing. Just saying. Especially what she goes through with Sebastion to have her boyfriend back. The entire Counsul pretty much gave up the search save a member or two, and she's still persistent. I don't think I go go through all of that.

I loved all the scenes. New York, Italy, and England are all I can remember but I loved them all. Let me just say that the Italy scenes was so sweet. I won't say what it was because of spoilers, but aww. So, so sweet! I wish I could have a relationship like that. But, alas no.

One scene left me almost speechless. Almost, because I could only say one word. That word was ew. It was in the latter half of the book, and I think anyone who's read it knows what I'm talking about because.. Wow. Twisted place, Cassie, very twisted.

I wish this book still included Jace's sarcasm, but like the pervious book, COFA it was missing. That made me very sad. One of the many reasons this series is my favorite is because of Jace's quotes. And they were lacking. I was sorely disappointed in that.

I still give it like 7 stars though. ♥

A Beautiful Dark

Author: Jocelyn Davies
Series: A Beautiful Dark, Book 1
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 9! I loved it!

On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.

In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

I loved this book! It has a beautiful cover, an awesome main character, and one dark and dangerous guy with his opposite cousin who's undeniably dreamy. Personally I'm Team Asher, you know the dark and dangerous one. But he has a sweet side! I'm so typical.

This is Jocelyn's first book, and I think she did amazing. I love her writing and I was thinking about it long after I was done. I even gave it to my friend as a birthday present and she loved it too, so it's not just me!

Skye's so sweet. She skies, and studies hard to get into Columbia which is her dream university. She has two best friends and cares about them both so much. You can relate to her (which is important to me in a book) because she has goals and hobbies just like every other teenager. I hope.

The book takes places in Colorado! I love Colorado! Plus I really  wanted to go skiing after I read this book. I still do and it's been a while since I read it. It's in a small town, well, not a really small town like mine but big enough to have a cafe. If that tells you anything.

Asher! And Devon! I like them both, it's true. But, I do like Asher more. Imagine that. Me liking the more sarcastic and dangerous one. How unpredictable of me. It's just my type.  He's so sweet and he really care about Skye. He's also funny. I like funny. ;)

I really liked the book. 4 1/2 stars! ♥

Yes or no for the new blog design?
The picture is from the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer shoot.

Meg Cabot!

Meg Cabot!
Nope, she's not coming on here I'm sad to say. BUT, she is having a lot of amazing giveaways of her books on different blogs (again, not this one.) Today The Romance Bookie is having a giveaway and it's awesome. So go there now.

In other news

I haven't wrote any reviews lately. I apologize for the delay and will start again soon. It's very hard to juggle things lately.

The YA Sisterhood is having their second annual crush tournament going on right now. As of now, they have the brackets and will start the actual voting and eliminations soon. I know everyone except for about three, so choosing will be HARD.
One of the best parts is, normally the authors who created the characters will post a scene or something as a treat for getting their guy as far as possible.
Personally, I'm rooting for quite a few. Noah, Daemon, and Tod are my favorites I think. There's just too many I ♥! Michelle Hodkin has already promised scenes for Noah!

Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports

Author: James Patterson
Series: Maximum Ride, Book 3
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 7

In MAXIMUM RIDE: SAVING THE WORLD AND OTHER EXTREME SPORTS, the time has arrived for Max and her winged "Flock" to face their ultimate enemy and discover their original purpose: to defeat the takeover of "Re-evolution", a sinister experiment to re-engineer a select population into a scientifically superior master race...and to terminate the rest.

Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman, and Angel have always worked together to defeat the forces working against them--but can they save the world when they are torn apart, living in hiding and captivity, halfway across the globe from one another?

Yes, I like this series. No, I didn't like the book that much, save one part. Okay, more than one but still. Fang really pissed me off with the whole "My blog will save the world" crap. I mean, really? You're supposed to love her. Does that not sound like love, or is it just me?

There's also one part where everything I thought about Angel was just like, um, hello! Wow. And then after I thought about it, I was like.. Well, yeah. And the Gasman's impressions are freaking hilarious. And this ter Borcht guy, all the scenes involving him are just.. Amazingly funny. They make fun of him so much.

The ending. Aw. Finally. And it ended back in the States, but for a portion of the book part of the flock was in Europe. France (I miss it so freaking much) Germany, England.. I loved hearing about the places I love. Granted I have never been to England but regardless, I want to and I love some people there. But the change of scenery was pleasant indeed.

I personally would give this around 3.5 or 4 out of my stars. Because well, Fang really pissed me off at some points. But overall, I did like it. Max is still as likable as always, and they're still those twists that you know you should see coming but you never do. At least, not totally. :)

School's Out- Forever

Author: James Patterson (of course. What isn't? Kidding, but really. The man writes alot.)
Series: Maximum Ride, Book 2
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 7

The heart-stopping quest of six winged kids--led by fourteen-year-old Max--to find their parents and investigate the mind-blowing mystery of their ultimate destiny continues when they're taken under the wing of an FBI agent and attempt, for the first time, to live "normal" lives.

But going to school and making friends doesn't stop them from being relentlessly hunted by sinister spies, who lead Max to face her most frightening match yet: a new and better version of herself.

Still loving this series. The flock's story continues. We learn a few more characteristics about each of the flock. Including jealousy, between my favorite couple. ;) As if that isn't obvious. Max goes on a DATE! Holy hell. And there's more kissing.

There's another Max too! And we find some interesting things about Ari. He's a lot like Sebastian in City of Fallen Angels if you can get that reference. It's odd. I'm saying that and I'm from Kentucky, mind you, and I'm saying it's weird. Kentucky. You know? The hillbilly state? Yeah. Anyway.

More action, which is excellent. I hate a lot of pointless description, and thankful this book doesn't have it. What it does have is action, romance, tough girls, kids with wings, and explosives. :D

I still like Fang, of course. :) I wish he said more though. That's be nice. I think he should be sarcastic. Just my opinion.

The only reason I was only a tiny weeny bit disappointed is the lack of romance between my favorite coupling. But there is still a connection, that was apparent, so it wasn't that big of a disappointment.

I give it four out of five stars. Because it's awesome. :)

The Angel Experiment

Author: James Patterson
Series: Maximum Ride, Book 1
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 8

In James Patterson's blockbuster series, fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?

.
So I love the Maximum Ride series. I'm re-reading it now in prepartion of the last book- Nevermore- which comes out in August. Super excited, definitely. But the question is.. Fang (whom I adore, for sure) or Dylan (who was freaking made for her. Hard to beat, wouldn't you say?)
This is the first book in the series, and it's great at explaining things. But what it's absolutely fantastic at is getting the ball rolling. Action, back to back. It's lovely. Especially since I've read the Fallen series lately (description to the extreme) and Marked (MEH. Just go read my review.) Anyways.
I already liked Fang. You can tell he and Max had a connection. He's so stoic though. But sweet. And dark. *fans self*
Okay! Other characters! Angel was a sweetheart (plus I love her name) but you can tell there's something else there. She's only six years old, but goodness that girl has something in her! Nudge is.. Nudge. Annoying at times. Gasman (oh, that name) he was pretty cute for an eight year old. I liked Iggy too. I mean, a blind guy who can cook and make bombs? What else could you possibly want?! ;)
Max was, sorry, is one of my faovrite heroines. She's stuff, determined, meant to save the world..:) Sarcastic too. My favorite type. :)
I'd give this 4 out of five stars. Plus a bonus for the whole they-have-wings-oh-my-God-they're-mutants thing. Yeah. It's original.

Marked

Author: P. C. Cast, and Kristen Cast
Series: House of Night, Book 1
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 1 Bad.

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do.
It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers.
When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.
.
.

Marked was recommended to me by a friend. I loved vampire books, so naturally I read it. And didn't love it. The idea that a vampire society is open is odd to me. Part of what makes vampires so awesome sometimes is that they exist in a world, the same as ours but very different, and we have no idea about them. This book in a introductory book. It has no real plotline- which is at least haf the reason I didn't like it much. I like action and an actual story.
Zoey for me was kind of annoying. She's this powerful fledgling who can't say anything worse than hell. She's so freaking innocent, it's annoying. She hates her home life, which I can relate to sometimes. Then she goes to this school after she's been marked (I also find it strange that a vampyre school has trackers and markers and whatever other crap) and she finds this amazing new life. Not only that, but she finds she has all these amazing new powers and becomes a new leader.
Other characters (i.e. Aphordite, Erik, her Grandmother) were okay. I liked them better than I liked Zoey. Especially Erik, he was my favorite. Even though I wasn't even impressed by him a lot. Aphordite. Sweet Mother of God. "This school is cool because of me." WTF? No one, and I mean no one talks like that. I didn't like Zoey's new BFF Stevie Rae either. She reeked country hick. And very, very annoying. More so than even Zoey.
Heath and Kayla (referred to as K, which just alone I have a problem with) are two characters from Zoey's old life. Heath an old almost (Almost. Yeah. Really.) ex boyfriend and Kayla a best friend. Why you would want her as a best friend, I do not know. But blah blah blah, Heath still loves her and Kayla likes him and blaaaah. *head shake* Over the course of the book, Heath becomes more annoying. He drinks, he smokes pot, and he's a jock. And undeniably desperate for Zoey. One of his texts messages was "U + Me" Accompanied by "i still luv you" and "talk to me" and all the other crap. Sorry, no one talks like that.
My overall rating is probably two stars out  of five because it gets a little better. I've read the entire series (at least what's come out so far) and yes, it gets better. But not good enough to be a favorite series.

Hourglass

Author: Myra McEntire
Series: Hourglass (Book #1)
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 8

One hour to rewrite the past . . .
For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.
So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

I loved the originality of this book! I've never read a time travelling book before, and I'm so glad I started with this one.
.

Emerson was such a pleasure to read. She was realistic, apart from the rip seeing and time travelling of course. She can flip a grown man over her shoulder! I'm a big fan of a strong girl playng the lead role. Emerson fits that requirement quite well.

I also love a dreamy guy. Michael, whilst not a Jace or Noah or Daemon per say, is still dreamy. He's not as rough around the edges. He's more of the flower type of guy verses the insulting sarcasm type that the above mentioned are. He's so sweet and brave, it's endearing. I admire him for his perseveness. Is that a word? Oh well.

I also enjoyed all the other characters. Dru, Kaleb, Jack, Thomas, pretty much everyone contributed to the plotline. It was a well rounded story. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in time travel, or a romance with a twist.
.

Four stars! I was plesantly surprised, by both Michael and Emerson.

Halo

Author: Alexandra Adornetto
Series: Halo, Book 1
Rate (On a scale of 1-10): 7

Three angels are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human.

They work hard to conceal their luminous glow, their superhuman powers, and their wings.

Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and they are unable to resist their attraction to each other. But the angels’ mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening.

Will love ruin Bethany or save her?

Surprisingly, I loved this book. I got it on a whim from the library, along with it's sequel, and I was pleasantly surprised. It made me feel closer to   angels, which also surprised me. Yes, I've read angel books. Who hasn't- they're freaking everywhere. But none of them has been like this. Main characters have been angels, whether they've known it or not, but none have been quite the same.

Beth was an angel. She was in Heaven immediately before the beginning of the book. She then became human without knowing what any of it was like. The change.. Good Lord. What a difference.

Xavier. Oh my. Not my typical guy, that's for sure. But sometimes he had me laughing, fist pumping, and saying awwwww. He's just a sweetie, that boy.

Molly was a character I just didn't like. She was whiny, selfish, greedy, and she took her best friend (an angel) for granted. She also had this annoying crush on someone so completely unobtainable it was ridiculous.
.

I like Gabriel- I mean he's the guy I always read about! How awesome that he's like right there?! My opinion- the author, Alexandra Adornetto, did a good rendition of him. If the Angel  Gabriel should ever come down to Earth, I could see him acting like this. But a music teacher? Not history? Really?  I also liked Beth and Gabriel's sister- Ivy. She was of the seraphim rank. She portrayed a nice maternal figure, always cooking and sewing and such. She was a lot nicer and more forgiving than Gabriel. Plus, she has wicked healing powers. Which I find amazing.

.

I would give this 4/5 stars. I enjoyed the plot, the view inside Beth's head, and of course I enjoyed the main guy. Not to mention the other one who becomes much more important. (That one is British. Squeeee!) I like Brits. Forgive me. ;)
